SUV version of the Mercedes-Benz EQS on its way
A new SUV version of the Mercedes-Benz EQS has been announced, capable of covering 410 miles on a charge. It also features the same 56-inch, triple-screen infotainment system of the saloon EQS.
The e-Hybrid models follow in the tracks of the successful plug-in-hybrid 4x4 range in broadening the Jeep model range.
Mercedes-Benz's EQS SUV will compete with the BMW iX and forthcoming Range Rover in the luxury electric-SUV stakes.
Based on the same platform and sharing components with the EQS saloon, the EQS SUV will be available with rear- or all-wheel drive versions - however, final UK specifications have not yet been revealed.
Featuring a 107.8 kWh battery, three versions have been announced already - the EQS 450+, EQS 450 4Matic, and EQS 580 4Matic.
The first achieves the highlighted 410 mile range, while the all-wheel drive 4Matic models will still achieve 381 miles on a charge.
High-power charging is possible at up to 200 kW DC, adding 155 miles on a quarter of an hour. Home and public charging is possible at up to 11 kW as standard, though a 22 kW on-board charger can be specified.
The Hyperscreen available on the EQS saloon is also able to be fitted to the SUV version, which combines three large screens behind a single piece of curved glass that stretches across the dashboard.
It will even allow passengers to watch television on the furthest display from the driver, though if internal cameras detect that the driver is looking at the passenger screen, it will automatically dim it for safety reasons.
Able to seat five as standard, there is an optional seven-seat layout available for customers, creating a huge and flexible interior.
Lease rental rates for the electric Mercedes EQS SUV and UK specifications will be announced closer to on-sale date later this year.
