Lexus teases all-electric RZ
Lexus has revealed early images of its forthcoming RZ, the Japanese firm's first fully-electric vehicle.
Due in the first half of 2022, the RZ will be an SUV built on a dedicated electric vehicle platform, the same one to be underpin parent company Toyota's bZ4x and the Subaru Solterra.
Appearing set to look similar to the
LF-Z concept
displayed earlier this year, the RZ will likely feature a larger battery in a longer wheelbase than the Toyota, ensuring a longer driving range.
A sophisticated all-wheel drive system - DIRECT4 - will allow the Lexus to turn from front-wheel drive to rear-wheel drive, and anything in between. Steer-by-wire technology will also feature, with Lexus claiming improved steering response.
Because of the all-wheel drive capabilities of the RZ, it is expected that twin-electric motors will be used, allowing for a performance focus for the first electric production model from Lexus.
Pricing and specification details for the
new electric Lexus
will be announced closer to on-sale date.
