Elegant new Hyundai i20 unveiled

We're not sure exactly where it found the time in between winning loads of awards and designing flying cars for Spiderman films. Not that it really matters to us where the time came from. The important thing is to let you know there's a brand-new hatchback on the way in the shape of the next generation Hyundai i20.

Hyundai's i-range –  i10, i20, and i30 – has been a huge success across Europe thanks to its quality, reliability, and practicality. Production of the latest i20 is scheduled to begin in the third quarter of 2023 so, while prices and specifications are yet to be announced, hopefully you should be able to lease yourself the new Hyundai i20 around the end of the year.

The new i20 boasts a sleek exterior and sporty stance thanks to its low roof profile and long wheelbase.

The shape and pattern of the front bumper, as well as the radiator grille and headlight design, have been enhanced to create an elegant new look. The rear end also boasts a redesigned bumper and unique Z-shaped LED tail lights. Newly designed 16- and 17-inch wheels finish off the exterior look.

The new Hyundai i20 comes in eight exterior colours with an optional black two-tone roof. Three exterior colours are brand-new: Lucid Lime Metallic, Lumen Grey Pearl, and Meta Blue Pearl. It's also available in the existing shades of white, black, grey, red, and green.

Opt for the vibrant Lucid Lime and there's also an interior colour package with seats that feature a new sporty pattern and lime-coloured stitching decorating various bits of the interior.

Even without the dazzling interior there's still plenty to appreciate.

The new Hyundai i20 has been upgraded with a standard 4.2-inch LCD cluster, USB type-C plug, and Over-the-Air (OTA) map updates. Hyundai has even replaced all the interior bulbs with LEDs and given you the ability to adjust the colour of the mood lighting in the spacious cabin.



That's on top of the already popular options in the previous version, such as the optional 10.25-inch cluster and 10.25-inch display screen, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and wireless charger. There's even an upgrade option to get yourself a Bose premium sound system.

There are also more safety features now fitted as standard.

The Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist has been updated and Lane Following Assist is also included. For additional peace of mind, optional safety systems are also available such as Rear Cross-traffic Collision Assist, Blind-spot Collision-avoidance Assist, and Navigation-based Smart Cruise Control (NSCC) which uses the car's satnav to anticipate curves or straights on motorways and adjusts the speed for safer driving.

Under the bonnet you'll find Hyundai's brilliant 1.0-litre T-GDi engine. Available with either 100bhp or 120bhp, the engine is designed to provide maximum efficiency but still manages to put in a gutsy performance. There will also be a choice of either a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission or a six-speed manual with a clever coasting mode that decouples the gearbox from the engine when you release the accelerator to save fuel.

And if that's not enough to convince you just bear in mind that Hyundai are on a bit of a roll when it comes to making really good cars. All those awards were hard won, and there's absolutely no reason to think that the next Hyundai i20 won't be following in the same vein.
