When it comes to choosing an SUV to lease it's hard to pretend 7 million people can be wrong. That's how many people have looked at the options and decided that the best choice for them is the Nissan X-Trail. After 20 years and four generations, the latest X-Trail has been revealed, and there are now even more reasons to choose one.

The All-New Nissan X-Trail offers a unique combination of rugged eye-catching design, comfort, on-board convenience, and an effortless, confident drive.

Central to the X-Trail's appeal is its distinctive styling. Both the exterior and interior are designed to reflect the spirit of the vehicle – versatile and adventurous.

The new front end is framed by striking headlights that appear moulded within the bodywork of the front bumper along with combined daytime running lights and indicators. Muscular wheel arches at the front and rear give the X-Trail presence on the road, while split rear lights ensure the boot opens nice and wide for easy loading and unloading.

The new X-Trail will also be available in 10 body colours with five two-tone combinations so you won't be short on options. It also comes in both five and seven-seat versions so practicality should go without saying.

The cabin of the All-New Nissan X-Trail sets a new standard too. Nissan's research has shown drivers prefer easy-to-use core functions, so the X-Trail has simple, intuitive heating/air-conditioning controls, as well as buttons that govern the central screen functions, such as audio and navigation.

The top level of the floating centre console features the e-shifter, the drive mode selector and twin cup holders, as well as the 15w wireless charge pad for smartphones. For comfort there is a combined elbow rest for front-seat occupants, which has a “butterfly” opening, to reveal a cavernous storage space for valuables. Underneath the floating console is even more storage for items such as a wallet or tablet, because in a family car you can never have enough storage.

The latest X-Trail also offers an advanced infotainment system, effortless integration of smartphones, in-car Wi-Fi for up to seven devices, NissanConnect Services, and a dedicated app with which to interact with and monitor the vehicle. The system features a high resolution 12.3 inch display screen for navigation, entertainment, and vehicle settings, and is compatible with both Android and Apple smartphones.

Mild-hybrid and e-Power drive systems

Nissan will offer the new X-Trail with a mild-hybrid system featuring a turbocharged 1.5-litre engine, automatic transmission, and front-wheel drive. And having said that there doesn't really seem much point because the one everyone is going to want is the e-Power version.

e-Power is Nissan's excellent answer to electrification and will feature on the new X-Trail for the first time.

The All-New X-Trail's e-Power system comprises a high-output battery and powertrain integrated with a petrol engine, power generator, inverter and 150kW electric motor. This unique powertrain means that power to the wheels comes only from an electric motor. The engine is there solely to generate electricity so it's never really under any strain which means it can always run at its most economical. And because it's a self-contained system there's no need to plug it in to recharge the batteries.

If you opt for the e-Power system you also get the choice to add all-wheel drive, an option not available on petrol versions. The e-4orce all-wheel drive system adds a second electric motor to the rear axle for increased traction and stability. The addition of the second electric motor also boosts acceleration to a healthy 7 seconds to 60mph so as well as being economical it's also going to be pretty quick for a big SUV.
