Second-generation Hyundai Kona just gets better
It says a lot about the direction of a carmaker when it unveils a new range and proudly announces the EV version was developed first. That's exactly what Hyundai has just done. Although EVs now feature in most manufacturer's model line-up they've usually been an electric version of an existing petrol/diesel model. Lease yourself the new Hyundai Kona and you'll find the opposite is true.
The second generation Hyundai Kona was developed as an EV first with the hybrid and petrol variants being adapted to suit. For the range, Hyundai broke away from the conventional petrol-to-electric development process, resulting in a car specifically designed to work best as an EV.
The new Hyundai Kona will offer one of the most comprehensive ranges in the compact SUV segment, including the widest range of powertrains. You can choose the EV variant in both standard and long-range versions, a hybrid version, as well as the traditional internal combustion engine option. Each one will also be available as sporty N Line versions.
This all suggests Hyundai is forging ahead with its ambitious electrification programme that will bring 11 new Hyundai EVs to market by 2030.
The new Kona range boasts excellent aerodynamic performance without sacrificing style. Vivid exterior colours also emphasise the Kona's rugged design, while N Line versions boast black mirrors, wing-type spoiler and optional black roof, more aggressive front and rear designs, twin exhausts, and silver side skirts.
More spacious, more practical
Hyundai has also been able to design a larger interior on top of the EV platform to make the new Kona as practical as possible. There's loads of space in the rear thanks to the fully folding back seats so loading it up with stuff is a piece of cake. The interior has also been redesigned and a few controls relocated to create lots of cubby holes and storage bins.
Among the other interior upgrades are dual ‘floating' 12.3-inch panoramic display screens, a digital key, full Over-the-Air software updates, connected navigation, and an EV-specific head-up-display. There's also an eight-speaker Bose Premium Sound System plus subwoofer, two USB-C chargers (including one with data support), and a 12V power outlet in the front as well as two USB-C chargers in the rear.
The new Hyundai Kona also features a Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) function allowing you to use the car as your own private power station. Devices can be plugged into a standard outlet on the rear centre console when the EV is powered on, or via a V2L adapter to access the battery's power when the car is parked.
The second-generation Kona is also equipped with the next level of Hyundai's SmartSense driver assistance features. Level 2 autonomous driving, Forward Collision Avoidance Assist, Blind-spot View Monitor, Remote Smart Parking Assist, and Driver Status Monitor all feature as standard.
With its rugged design and upscaled dimensions, the all-new Hyundai Kona builds on the success of the outgoing model. It's still a great choice for lots of different lifestyles, but now adds new technologies and convenience features that provide a safe, connected, and comfortable choice for your next lease car.
