Salary sacrifice partnership helps fleets to accelerate EV switch

Company Fleet  Electric Vehicles  Partnership

Gateway2Lease is helping more fleets to switch to electric vehicles in a new five-year partnership with salary sacrifice experts The Electric Car Scheme.

The agreement, which extends the current three-year partnership between the two companies, comes amid rapid growth in demand for salary sacrifice.

Latest figures from the British Vehicle Rental and Leasing Association reported a 59% year-on-year rise in demand for the tax efficient method of funding a new vehicle, supporting an industry consensus that growth “continues to be spectacular”.

Employees fund a vehicle by ‘sacrificing’ their pre-tax salary. An employee pays less tax and national insurance on a reduced salary, while the employer also pays lower NI contributions. With employer NI going up in April 2025 after Chancellor of the Exchequer Rachel Reeve’s Autumn Budget statement, the potential financial benefits of salary sacrifice have increased.

Rob Marshall, Operations Director at Gateway2Lease, said: “The partnership combines our expertise in vehicle leasing with The Electric Car Scheme’s market leading and innovative salary sacrifice proposition.”

Following 160% year-on-year growth, The Electric Car Scheme recently received new investment to accelerate its expansion. The investment round was led by 13books Capital, with additional investment from Triple Point Ventures, Seedcamp, Adjuvo, Ascension and Bayern Kapital.

The Electric Car Scheme founder and CEO Thom Groot said: “We remain focused on our mission to create a ‘no brainer’ decision for everyone to transition to net zero, at an affordable cost. To achieve this, we partner with leading technology driven organisations like Gateway2Lease in order to bring the best of what the market has to offer to our clients.”
